to help their children succeed in ski racing. The Kick Start event is a great opportunity to get a leg up on the season— my other advice is to go skiing! Skiing with your kids is the single best thing parents can do to prepare, motivate and encourage enjoyment of the sport. In addition to getting a primo parking spot, early morning skiing also helps athletes warm-up before meeting their training groups. During our ten-week program the chairlifts are open from 8:30-4:30, with programs running from 9:30-3:30. Quick math tells me that those athletes who ski bell to bell each day will accrue 40 extra hours of skiing on weekends alone! But what if you’re not an avid skier, or God forbid your kids can already out-ski you? I can sympathize, but do it anyway. I assure you, your children will enjoy the one-on-one time and will head to training, focused, limber and ready to perform. Not to mention, they’ll meet their training groups on time!
My ultimate goal as a Coach (and as a parent) is to create passionate, lifelong skiers. Mileage at a young age contributes greatly to the long-term love of the sport. It’s a luxury for me to catch an early morning or late afternoon chairlift with my kids—a time when I can take off my “coaching hat” and simply enjoy skiing with them. Although they are of vastly different abilities, we pick a run that we will all enjoy, often stopping to laugh, tell stories and encourage/praise one another. It’s the best part of my day.
Here’s to a snowy 2020 and plenty of turns with your kids. See you on the hill!

U14 and U16 O-Cup Programs:
The U14 and U16 OCUP Programs are off and skiing! After a busy fall with school and tness training, many athletes have started their on-snow season with camps running in both Copper Mountain, Colorado and Hintertux, Austria. Copper held up its reputation and delivered beautiful bluebird days while Hintertux provided much adventure and fun with huge snowfalls - recording over 2.5 metres during our Camp! With the early snow and cold locally we are able to keep our racers on snow which is amazing. We will run training locally on weekends to increase our time on task. The next Camp for the athletes is Mont Ste Anne mid-December which will hopefully lead into a great start for the Club to keep the momentum going.
Our programs continue to grow and produce top level athletes. The athletes will race locally in Southern Ontario for the majority of the schedule and some will move on to National and International events. This season we will be travelling with the U16 Team to Thunder Bay for the Provincial Finals with some athletes then qualifying to go to Western Canada for the National Championships, Tremblant for Eastern Finals, Whistler for Whistler Cup and Val D’Isere, France.
Our U14 Team will be competing in the Collingwood area for their Provincial Finals with some athletes then
representing Ontario at Sugarloaf, Maine for the Eastern CanAm Races and Whistler for the Whistler Cup.
It is incredibly impressive to see how many athletes have moved on from Ontario programs! It is so motivating for our athletes, Coaches and families to see Georgian Peaks racers on the World Cup but also returning to the Club as Coaches and with families of their own. While we obviously do not have the largest hills - we may possibly have the most passion :)
Wishing everyone a wonderful season!

Final Reminder - Check your equipment!:
With the season quickly approaching, please be sure to check all equipment before arriving at the hill. Have your bindings checked, make sure your skis are sharp and tuned ready for the snow, check ski boots and ski lengths as children grow quickly and grow out of equipment. There is nothing worse than skiing in boots that are too tight.
If you need any help with equipment, please feel free to ask any of our Coaching Team. We would be happy to help.
