The power of NJC travel experiences in making the humanities, natural sciences, mathematics, language, art and literature spring to life is profound. Our trips add deep, rich, tangible meaning to the classroom experience. A few examples of how teachers integrate the world into the classroom for students include:
• appreciating the many contrasts between the North American and European continents in the way that nature and the environment are dealt with culturally, politically and individually as we travel throughout Europe;
• discussing the philosophical questions of ethics and morality, the theories of good and evil within the historical context of Europe in Philosophy class;
• dealing extensively with World War II, the rise of Naziism and the persecution of minorities in cross-curricular applications in History, English and Philosophy classes vis à vis our trips to Flanders Fields, Normandy and Paris and the wider impact across Europe;
• understanding how electric and magnetic fields are used in speeding up particles to near light speeds during the visit to the CERN Particle Accelerator outside of Geneva;
• weighing questions of International Law, and the legality and principles of the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials in Law class;
• considering the causes of wars, strategies and their effects on economy and society;
• covering nationalism, territorial sovereignty, international law, diplomacy, and conflict resolution in politics to inform our trips to Belgium and France;
AP examinations are written in May examination period, students return year internal final examinations in June.
