resources. The most common accommodations include extra time
on tests/exams, quiet workspaces, and use of technology for writing tasks. Universities will require that all Psych-Ed assessments be on file and recent (within the three-year window) if accommodations are to be requested at the post-secondary level. Any previous IPRC or IEP documents will be requested by NJC along with a copy of the original Psych-Ed assessment, so that they are included in the student’s OSR (Ontario Student Record).
• Tutoring Services
NJC offers a very preferential class size ratio and for students who require some additional support, they are directed to their classroom teacher initially as a tutoring resource. Times will be arranged between student and teacher that are mutually convenient. Peer support is another avenue that has been used previously among small groups of students in terms of study groups. There may be options outside the school setting for additional academic support, however language barriers and comfort with the Ontario curriculum are challenges faced while in Switzerland by any outside tutor. NJC has had success in meeting the needs of our students in this regard in the past, providing the necessary support within the available resources. If they prefer to maintain their working relationship with a current tutor, students are also welcome to retain them and schedule sessions via Skype.

The tradition of our students living en pension (in the home) with French- speaking Pension Families dates back to when NJC was founded in 1956. We have never altered this aspect of our program because the result of living ‘en pension’ consistently proves to be one of the most transformational and cherished aspects of the NJC experience.
By living en pension, our students become integrated with Swiss culture and daily life. Our students live as Europeans. Most pension families have welcomed students into their homes for many years, and several for decades. Pension families typically take 1 or 2 NJC students. Our dedicated Pension Coordinator is very familiar with the characteristics of our pension families and takes great care in matching students. On the Orientation Trip (see page 32) living arrangements are discussed, including the options of living with a roommate or in a single pension placement. Following a consultation with the Pension Coordinator and Head of School, pension matches are finalized.
