                                Reading comprehension strategies


             ¾  Read the title and predict what the text might be about.

             ¾  Look at any illustration. What do they tell you about the topic ?
             ¾  Look at the text over and note its lenght, organization, source to identify the type of

                document. Pay attention to the punctuation.
             ¾  Read for gist (= read the text to get the general idea of its content : who ? What ?

                When ? WHere ?)

             ¾  Read a second time ± more closely.
             ¾  Read the questions completely

             ¾  Scan the text to look for answers only one question at a time.

                examining the context clues or the word parts (suffixes, prefixes, root words).
