Inventor compensation
Mass General Brigham, as do all U.S. academic institutions, distributes a
portion of the net proceeds from a commercialization to the inventor(s)
and their home units. A key element of the process is the establishment,
at the time of the disclosure, of all parties who contributed to an invention.
The determination of who is to be included in the patent filing will be made
by patent counsel when drafting the patent application.
The general policy for distribution of annual net income includes 45% to
the inventors (s) and the inventor’s lab/unit, 20% to the department/service,
and 35% to the institution. The 45% to the inventor (s) and the inventor’s
lab is allocated (within limits) between inventor and the lab/unit, by the
Principal Investigator (with 30% maximum going to the Inventors or Additional information and the IP policy can
the lab). be found at: https://innovation.partners.
