                       Activity 4 UNDERSTANDING THE DIVISION OF THE ALGEBRA

               In the previous three activities, you have discussed addition, subtraction, and multiplication
               operations in algebraic forms. In this activity, we will learn the operation of dividing

               algebraic forms. The division operation of the algebraic form is the opposite of the
               multiplication operation of the algebraic form.

                   Problem 4.1Division of algebraic forms in

                   everyday life

               If the information in the problem is changed, which is known to be area = x2 + 5x 300 units
               of area, and length = x + 20 units of length, you are asked to determine the algebraic form of

               the width. How do you go about determining the width?

               Solution:

               As we know area = length × width. We can write

               width =

               The width of Pak Tohir's land can be determined by dividing the algebraic form of the land

               area by the algebraic form of the length.

                        2
               width =    +5  −300  =    − 15with x+20≠0
                           +20
               In this activity, we have determined the quotient   + 5   − 300 by x + 20 is x 15.
