C.W. COOKE TROPHY AND TED BRICKNELL MEMORIAL AWARDS 2019
As usual there were some high quality nominations from the groups for these two prestigious
awards, with the NEC having to judge between eight for the C.W.Cooke and six for the Ted
Bricknell. After careful consideration they are pleased to announce the following most
        deserving winners.
C.W.Cooke Trophy for the most meritorious racing performance of the season is awarded
jointly to tandem riders Rachael Elliott (Newbury RC) and Ian Greenstreet (AeroCoach), both
of London and Home Counties Group.
Following her remarkable recovery from a stroke in early 2018 and no longer able to ride a
solo, Rachael teamed up with Ian to begin tandem time trialling. This was a new discipline for
them both but they soon discovered the extra performance depths possible by riding together,
through not wishing to let their partner down. They started off in March with a modest 33:45
for 15 miles but after optimising equipment and riding strategy their times soon tumbled. By
early June they achieved 15 miles competition record with 28:01. In the months that followed
they lowered this record further to 27:55, captured the 25 mile record with 47:09 and twice
lowered the 30 mile record - first to 57:19 and then to 56:54. All these rides were age 96
national records, as was their 50 mile ride in 1:44:22.
Ted Bricknell Memorial Award is given for outstanding services to the Association and for
2019 is made posthumously to our late National Recorder Steve Lockwood of Midlands
        Group.
Steve joined the VTTA in 2010 and soon took on various administrative roles, often using his
skills in IT and data processing. In 2012 he took over as National Recorder and in addition to
the competition administration aspects of the role he became the lead player in the 2012/3
standards review and update, introducing a high level of statistical analysis to the process.
Following the enhanced capture of performance data by the CTT website he then repeated
the task several years later to produce the newly introduced 2019 standards.
Steve's untimely passing has left a huge gap in the VTTA organisation and he is sadly missed,
although he leaves a valuable legacy in the new standards and a wider appreciation of factors
to be considered in any further revisions.

                           VACANCY FOR NATIONAL TREASURER
It was announced in the September Veteran that Mary Corbett is stepping down as our National
Treasurer; we invited interest from members in taking up this vital role in the VTTA. This is an
important position and the VTTA cannot operate effectively without it being filled.
The National Treasurer manages the financial affairs of the VTTA and is a member of the
NEC. The move to online banking, and the implementation of the new National Online
Membership System, have helped to streamline the processes involved in the role. Key
tasks include liaison with groups over national subscriptions, managing the authorisation and
payment of invoices and reimbursement of expenses, the submission of quarterly financial
reports to the NEC, and the production of the annual accounts. Records are currently kept
using Excel, not any specialist accounting software. NEC meetings are held quarterly,
where the Treasurer provides an update on financial matters and may advise on the financial
        implications or consequences of decisions.
A full description of the role is available on request and Mary is willing to assist with the handover.
If you would like to register a potential interest in the role please contact the Chairman, Andrew
Simpkins, on 07767 835004 or email him at chairman@vtta.org.uk.
