THE WEEKEND AT MORGAN PARK RACEWAY, WARWICK 2023 (TAKE 2)
Freestone and Newton + The Blocks, McGoverns, McGregors all hit the road again!
For those who don’t know, The Intrepid 8 set out on this adventure last year and ended up at Kingscliff and many places in-between! No, we didn’t get lost, but it was the week that most of the state was flooded. After meeting at Wildhorse Coffee and hearing that the racing was cancelled, and all roads leading there were under water, we headed off on an eventful and spontaneous trip down the coast, ending up in NSW!
Fast forward to 2023 Warwick Autumn Historic. Again we met at Wildhorse Coffee with bright skies overhead. Everyone favoured getting off The Bruce and going the back way to Esk. It’s a lovely scenic drive and all was going well until a wee glitch in navigation sent us off track for a bit!!! ... ... ... not mentioning any names – John. We made it to Kilcoy and turned off on the Somerset Dam road. This is a beautiful part of the country, but the condition of the road leaves a lot to be desired! Stop-over at Nash Gallery and Café in Esk for something to eat then on to Gatton and another little navigational hiccup!! (it was a very BIG sign John! :-) then on to Warwick.
We stayed at the Pitstop Lodge B&B. This place is a wonderfully set up B & B with lovely hosts, Chris and Yve, and is only a very short walk from the centre of town. Friday night dinner was a short walk away at the RSL.
As the girls weren’t going to the track, the boys set off for their day of racing. We girls had a leisurely Saturday walking around Warwick, eating, shopping and losing Bernadette regularly!!!!! :-)
Reports were that the racing that day was good, but not much support it seems from the boys for the ‘regularity’ events.
Off to dinner at Ruperts Bar and Grill. Some drove and some walked. Those walking were treated to a Highland Pipe Band playing outside the Caledonian Hall for what we think was a wedding reception.
Sunday was, of course, Mother’s Day. The ladies were treated to a lovely, cooked breakfast, ably provided by the fella’s before they set off for the track for day 2.
