JUNE MEMBERS DAY OUT TO GYMPIE GOLD MINE MUSEUM + A SCENIC DRIVE TO KIN KIN FOR LUNCH
Simply a cracking day to get out and enjoy what this region has to offer.
A brisk run up the Highway to the Gympie Gold Mine complex for coffee and a tour through this Museum was a good start to the day. 78 members and guests came along for their history lesson about the famous Gympie gold mining era. Many of the buildings housing memorabilia and antiques remind us that it was a hard pioneering life back then. Anne and Carol were seen trying to find GOLD in the sluicing troughs but no luck – they both have big nuggets for husbands so all good there.
Amazing to see some of the machinery used to crush the rocks and extract the gold.
There are many buildings that housed relics of a bygone age including Australian Prime Minister Andrew Fisher’s residence. Not enough time to take in all of the Museum’s displays so a return visit is on the agenda.
There were many nice machines lined up in the car park as members took advantage of a picture perfect day to bring out their special cars.
We all took the well-chosen scenic road to Kin Kin – this drive takes in some beautiful countryside with crossing the Cedar Pocket weir a particular treat. Many artistic letterboxes line this route, adding more appeal to this trip to Kin Kin.
The Black Ant Café was a welcome spot to settle into for lunch, drinks and a chat with fellow enthusiasts – and the food was delicious.
Such an enjoyable day so a big thanks to Anne and John McGovern for organising the run and making sure everyone knew where they were going!!!
Nice to see so many different cars lining the streets of Kin Kin too.
Hope you all had a great day!!
Cheers : Noel
