Austin Forkner came into High Point with his first three pro races under his belt and looked to settle into the series. We have seen flashes of brilliance from the rookie but he has yet to string together to complete motos and he was hoping that today would be the day. He looked good with
the eleventh quickest practice time and was ready to mix it up with the best.
Forkner got an average start in the first moto emerging from the pack in twelfth place at the end of the opening lap. He began
to put the pressure on his teammate Arnaud Tonus and would quickly get around him and then pick up a few more spots due to Jordon Smith and Aaron Plessinger crashes. Sitting in ninth Forkner locked in behind his other teammate Adam Cianciarulo. They both got around McElrath halfway through bumping Forkner up into eighth. Then things got crazy late in the moto. Forkner got pressured and then passed by Plessinger but they would both get around Hampshire. Cianciarulo would go down gifting Forkner another spot and then he found a second wind and passed Plessinger back for sixth. He would grab one more spot due to Alex Martin’s bike blowing up and barely hold off Plessinger to finish an impressive fifth place. Forkner should he definitely has the endurance for these motos after those hectic last few laps.
