Colt Nichols has yet to have his breakout performance in the outdoors and came into High Point with the mindset to go out and get that breakout performance. He got things going in practice with the nineteenth quickest time, a little off of where he’d like to be but he made all
the proper adjustments and was ready for action. Nichols suffered a bad start in moto one and was stuck
way back in eighteenth early. He made some nice moves in the opening laps to work up into fifteenth place. He picked up
one more spot for fourteenth but would get passed by Aaron Plessinger shortly after sending him back into fifteenth. Nichols
seemed to be complacent and not very aggressive during the first half of the moto but that all changed in the second half. He
started whizzing by riders like Davalos and McElrath and next thing you know he is up to twelfth. He started pressuring Old-
enburg causing them both to catch Tonus and start a three-way battle. Nichols would get around both of them and climb up
into tenth. Then thanks to a Cianciarulo crash and an Alex Martin bike failure Nichols was all of a sudden in eighth place with
two laps to go. He looked to ride out the moto and finish strong but he would go down and finish back in thirteenth. He had to
getting a better start up in fourteenth this time.
