It comes as no surprise to see critically acclaimed Austin Forkner qualifying for the Monday mains at the RCSX with two wins and one 4th place finish. Actually, now that I think about it,
the 4th place ride is somewhat surprising, but hey, everyone has
their moto’s. As the sun rose, the anticipation for Forkner’s continuing path to excellence was at an an all-time high as his professional debut draws closer on the horizon. Before long, Monday’s mains were off and running; the battlegrounds were groomed, the bikes warmed and for the 9th moto of the day, the 250 A class was up. All eyes on the 214 Kawasaki of Forkner, Austin started in third with the top 3 riders within two seconds of each other. The leader, Bradley Taft, made a mistake on lap 2 dropping to 9th, and the fight was on between Farm Boy Forkner and Cameron McAdoo. The #812 of McAdoo held Forkner off for the first half of the race, until Forkner, setting him up with a calculated block pass, made his way around
the other Kawasaki rider to
take hold of the 1st place spot, cruising to his fist victory of the day. No big deal, that’s only championship number 40 in
the last 10 years... In his next class, Forkner was attempting to improve upon his heat race performance in the All-Star A/B divison. A strong second place start saw Forkner right where
he needed to be, hot on the
tail of once-again race leader, Bradley Taft. This time, though, Taft kept his composure, holding off the hard charge of Forkner for 5 laps. By that time, McAdoo was dicing it up with the #214 Kawasaki, picking up the 2nd spot, forcing Forkner back to 3rd. On lap 7, Forkner ran into a lapper, locking up shrouds and costing him two very expensive positions.
