When moto two got underway, it seemed the day took a turn for the worse when Tonus got out of the gate a bit
sluggish and crossed lap one buried in 14th. Knowing he doesn’t belong, Tonus grabbed an extra gear to pick
up three positions into 11th on the super-fast Washougal layout. Another lap and Arnaud was into the top ten after getting by Kyle Cunningham. Tonus would then continue the momentum around Oldenburg a couple laps later to reach 9th and began to pressure his teammate, Adam Ciancurulo. As the two rode into the final third of the race, Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne was forced to pull out of the race due to mechanical difficulties, putting Tonus into 8th behind AC in 7th. The two continued the push towards the front and made an extremely solid run until the last few laps of the moto where both riders were, again, passed by Cooper Webb, leaving Tonus back in 8th for the finish. With 7-8 moto scores, Tonus wasn’t quite able to return to the podium in Washougal but did put in a very solid performance for his 4th top ten in a row. Now with two weeks off, expect for Tonus to be fresh for Unadilla in New York.
