Andrew Short had a season breakthrough performance last weekend at Millville and wanted to prove at Washougal that it was not a fluke. The BTO Sports KTM rider had a decent qualifying session coming away with
the fifteenth fastest lap time. He was more than ready to get back out there and mix it up. Short had two good starts last weekend and he bested both of those with a great second place start in the first moto. He quickly surrendered positions to Roczen
and Pourcel and found himself back in sixth after a hectic first few laps. The veteran hit the reset button and started moving back towards the front. He looked very spry and racy as he started to hound Nicoletti ten minutes into the race igniting a lively battle. He would make the move on the JGR rider halfway through the moto and take over fifth place. Later in the moto he would inherit fourth place after a crash from Pourcel but also received some unexpected company. Nicoletti and Short’s teammate Benny Bloss had reeled him back in. The three riders started dicing and Short would get the short end of the stick and fall back to sixth. Despite losing those two spots, the sixth place finish was still his best moto finish of the year. Shorty got another solid start in the second moto rounding the opening lap in sixth place. He seemed locked in up there but he did lose just one position to Peick in the first ten minutes. Around halfway he set his sights on the returning Dean Wilson and would make the pass to regain sixth place. He rode a quiet race there until Pourcel came knocking in the waning laps. The two duked it out for a bit but Pourcel would make the pass stick and Short would finish seventh. His 6-7 moto scores for sixth overall would make another big season best finish and validate his stellar performance from Millville.
