Cooper Webb hasn’t always been the strongest starter, but he never lets that affect him when it comes to working his way onto the podium. Starting off moto one all the way back in twelfth place, Webb had a lot of work to do to get himself to the front. Just a couple minutes into the race he had already moved up four positions into eighth place. The Yamalube Star Racing Yamaha rider started a battle with Tonus, who was
putting up a fight. Gaining himself a good drive through a section, Webb was able to complete the pass and hold it down moving up yet another position. He then got Osborne and was running fourth place right behind the former champ of Jeremy Martin. As the moto
was coming to a close he was able to make the pass on Jeremy Martin giving him that podium position of third place. Unfortunately first and second place had pulled a seventeen second lead on him, making it difficult to catch back up with such little time left in the moto. Pushing hard all the way through the finish, Webb crossed the finish line in third place for moto one. Moto two wasn’t quite as smooth as the first one. Webb pulled the holeshot making it look like it was going to be a seamless race for him, but that was not the case. Just a couple turns in Savatgy steals his line away in a corner and passes him. Not liking that move he charges hard into the “s” turns and takes Savatgy and himself out causing a pile up. After recovering from that he was all the way back in eighteenth place. Now Webb was back
to doing what he does best, charging hard through the crowd. Making it look easy he was passing riders two to three at a time and within just a few minutes he was back into thirteenth. Continuing to carry that speed Webb worked his way into that top ten group. Now he was having to deal with some tougher competition and less time left in the race Webb put his head down and was able to make several more passes before the checkers finishing off moto two in sixth place. Going third and sixth for the day Webb was able to get third overall. Pretty incredible considering how many riders he had to work his way through in that second moto.
