CAMERON BEAUBIER : MOTUL SUPERBIKE
clawed away at the gap to Roger Hayden in the lead. They weren’t making much headway until Beaubier decided on a lunging overtake up the inside of Elias heading into the final corner, and he closed the gap to Hayden just one lap later. The three of them formed a six wheeled battle at the front of the field that raged on for the second half of the race. Beaubier’s R1 was incredibly strong in the fast, flowing sections of the course as he was able to carry more mid-corner speed than his rivals. He found himself in a Yoshimura Suzuki sandwich throughout the last couple laps of the race, fighting off attacks from Hayden as the Kentuckian nipped at his heels. Beaubier was able to fight back almost immediately after being overtaken, throwing his competitors out of their rhythm as he attempted to wait patiently until the final lap. He found himself at a slight disadvantage to Elias in the lead on the final lap, but he kept his head down and charged all the way until the final corner, setting one of his best laps of the race in the process. Beaubier threw his Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha up the inside of Elias at the apex of the final corner, stealing his line away, and subsequently out-dragging him to the finish line by just five thousandths of a second in order to snag the first Superbike victory of the weekend. In the second race, Beaubier suffered the same fate at the start as he lost a couple of positions heading into the first corner, settling into fifth place. >>
