CAMERON BEAUBIER : MOTUL SUPERBIKE
The Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider finished both races on the podium at VIR in order to close to the gap to the top of the points standings by a
whopping sixteen markers, bringing him within ten points heading into Road America. The momentum is in the Californian’s favor as the fourth round of the series kicks off in Wisconsin -- he managed to do the double last year, his YZF-R1 works well around the four mile circuit, and it’s one of his favorite tracks on the calendar. If he’s able to replicate his success from one year ago, it’s likely that he’ll be heading to Utah Motorsports Campus with the championship points standings in his favor.
Beaubier picked up right where he left off last year as he immediately cemented himself as the fastest rider of the Superbike class throughout the opening couple of sessions. Although the Californian wasn’t able to top the timesheets in Superpole, he still managed to land on the front row of the
grid by setting the third fastest time of the session with a 2:13.263. As the lights went out for the first race, Beaubier found himself at a disadvantage
off the start and dropped back to fourth place. He immediately worked his way past the M4 Ecstar Suzuki of Jake Lewis, but that only brought on a short-lived battle with Josh Herrin. The two Yamaha riders dueled throughout the opening lap until Beaubier was finally able to secure his place in third position, setting his sights on the pair of Yoshimura Suzuki riders ahead of him.
