Fong closed the gap to under one second as the white flag came out to signify the final lap, but he just ran out of time and had to duke
it out for second place with Scholtz. The two of them crossed the finish line with less than one hundredth
of a second separating them, but the Kawasaki rider was able to hold on for second place in the Superstock 1000 class, sixth overall. The second race started in similar fashion for the #50 as he found himself just outside the top five on the opening lap. He did his best to keep Lewis within his sights on the opening lap,
but a mistake by the Kentuckian forced Fong into a vicious crash that left him nowhere to go. He flew off his motorcycle and was struck by the bike of Scholtz, leaving him motionless on the ground in the wake of the incident. He shot back to his feet moments after the crash and scrambled to his bike, but the damage was too severe and he was forced to miss out on the restart, earning zero points at the end of the day. Fong had to concede his lead in the points chase to Scholtz, but he still maintains second place as the series heads to Utah where he’ll be looking to retake his crown.
