JOEY SAVATGY
Joey Savatgy began this season dominant and the clear top contender for the championship. His three
overall wins at the first four rounds resulted in a comfortable points lead and it looked like he would be able
to maintain it. The main reason people believed he could do so was because how consistent he was. He was always up front early and put together strong, solid motos. But then everything changed during the second moto at Red Bud. One moto removed from stalking Webb for an entire race but unable to make the pass, Savatgy came out fired up but unfortunately it would cost him. He would go down twice and the second one being a vicious fall at the bottom of the ski jump. Since then he has failed to finish on the overall podium and now sits fifty-three points behind points leader Cooper Webb. His situation is reminiscent of Chad Reed’s 2011 title hunt where he just wasn’t the same after the infamous “Chadapult” crash. However the two-week break could’ve been exactly what Savatgy needed to hit the reset button and mount one last charge at the title. He has been working his tail off at the Carmichael GOAT Farm and will try to bring another number one plate back to the already decorated wall.
