Joey Savatgy came into Unadilla desperate to make up some ground on Cooper Webb in the points standings. The early season points leader quali- fied modestly with the sixth fastest lap time but was happy to get racing on the track that saw him win his first ever
overall just a season ago.
Savatgy got off to a great start in the open-
ing moto slicing into second and putting the pressure on teammate Austin Forkner before
the race would get red flagged and they would have to go through a full restart. The second time around Savatgy’s start would quiver just a bit and instead of coming out second he would come out in fourth. He would settle in right behind his other teammate Arnaud Tonus as they both had their sights set on Cianciarulo and Webb just ahead. The four-rider battle would stay mostly spread apart for the first half of the moto until everything began to shake up halfway.
