Not only a hell of a day for Austin but a hell of a season for the rookie. “1 rookie. 12 races. 5 podiums. 2 moto wins and 1 overall. One hell of a summer.” - Olly Stone who is Forkners mechanic. Austin had a great day going for himself from start to finish, he grabbed the holeshot in moto one and lead from start to finish
in the mud. Forkner was nearly flawless in the first race with only one close call when he landed in the soupy mud after the finish line and jumped off the track. Austin won over teammate Joey Savatgy by 20+ seconds. If you where able to watch Forkner in the first race when the Ironman track was covered in mud, you would have seen Austin running a higher gear, making him look like a veteran. Running a higher gear gives you less wheel spin mud and helps you gain traction. Forkner got another holeshot in race 2 but was quickly pushed to 2nd by Aaron Plessinger. Austin trailed Aaron and the Yamaha rider made a mistake letting Forkner back into the lead. The two where running away and then Forkner made the mistake going down right after the finish line, surprisingly enough it was in the same section that he nearly crashed in moto 1.
