Savatgy was ready to go out with style as the morning program began in the rain on Saturday. He qualified 9th and was ready to do battle. When the first moto began, Joey got off to a fantastic start alongside rookie teammate, Forkner. He shuffled back a bit in the first few corners and was running 3rd early on. He then found himself battling with 2nd place in points, Martin as they bothe chased the leader, Forkner. If he wanted
any hope at taking over 2nd in points, he knew he had to beat him. Joey made a good pass on the inside of a muddy corner and was looking strong in the rutted conditions. He continued to charge and was determined to gain points on Alex Martin. As Forkner and Savatgy led the rest of the field for most of the moto, the sun began to come out and it looked like the track was getting better. Joey kept his pace fast as he followed his teammate to 2nd place. In the next moto, Joey got a decent start and found a spot in 6th position. He put down solid laps but didn’t seem to ride with the comfort that he had in the first moto. Joey continued in 6th until a crash with about five laps to go put him out and cut his season just a few laps short. Joey would settle for 3rd overall in the point’s standings and head into 2017 with confidence.
