>> Landen Gordon got out to an early lead in the first heat just ahead of fellow Cobra riders Diesel Thomas and Will Canaguier. The little Californian at the front of the field swiftly broke away from his opponents as he set the fast- est lap time of the race on the first trip around the course. Canaguier and Thomas battled closely for the 2nd spot as the two of them crossed the stripe within a couple of tenths of one another. The leading trio never got that far apart, but Gordon was able to command the gap from the front of the field as the battle wore on behind him. Canaguier was able to make the pass on Thomas on the final lap as they pushed each other within a couple of seconds of Gordon in the lead. Gordon was able to hold on for the victory which put him in a fantastic position to battle for the overall when the second motos start.
