>> Barry Carsten took the Illusive Gloves holeshot, but he came under immediate pressure from the Kawasaki of John Grewe. The Kawasaki rider scrubbed his speed with near perfection over the dinner table and attempted to set up a pass around the outside. The two of them checked out on the rest of the field as they battled back and forth for the following couple of corners. Grewe eventually cemented his position in the lead, but Carsten was determined to keep him in touch. They crossed the finish line one after another and Carsten was able to sneak back into the lead around the first corner. They acted out a carbon copy of the first lap overtak- ing maneuver as Grewe retook the lead and began to work toward an advantage at the front. He was in position to wrap up the overall with a 1st place finish in previous race, setting fastest laps one after another as he just inched away from Carsten. The Michiganian took the white flag with an advan- tage of 3 seconds over the New Jersey native in tow. Grewe rolled over the finish line and took the victory along with the championship by way of 1-1 finishes ahead of Carsten and Earl May.
