>> Mark Thomas forced himself out to an early lead aboard his Kawasaki machine ahead of Al Matarazzo and Samuel Allen. Thomas was able to create a gap of approximately 2 seconds over the course of the opening lap as he attempted to break away at the head of the field. On the first flying lap, the battle for 2nd began to heat up as Allen set the fastest lap of the race, chasing Matarazzo. The Kawasaki rider of Allen kept up the scolding pace from the previous lap as he completely dismantled the lead gap and worked his way into 1st place before the next time across the stripe, working his way past Matarazzo and Thomas. His fellow Kawasaki rider was able to match his pace and the two of them rode wheel- to-wheel for the entirety of the final lap, setting up a photo finish. Allen was able to hold on for the victory which put him in perfect position to snag the overall come the second moto.
