>> It was a flash of green at the front of the pack as a trio
of Kawasakis led by Karie Wilson sped down into the gator pit. Wilson held a slight advantage over Mikayla Nielsen and Sara Adams in the early stages of the opening lap, but the leading duo shortly began to make a break away. Nielsen kept the pressure on for the first half of the race as the two Kawasakis set identical lap times. Suddenly, the Californian began to up the pace towards the end of the race as she closed in on the lead. Nielsen had the slight edge on race pace, but she wasn’t able to find a way around the Virginian at the front of the field. Despite Nielsen setting the fastest lap of the race on the final lap, she came up just short of the vic- tory as the two crossed the finish line less than half a second apart. Wilson would take the victory, but the amazing battle between the two front runners would leave the overall victory up for the taking come the second motos.
