Josh Hayes certainly didn’t meet the
expectations that come with being a
four-time Superbike class champion at
the start of the season. It was through
no fault of his own that he didn’t score
any points in the opening race at Circuit of the Americas, but he also lacked the race pace that his main rivals displayed at the first round in Austin. One week later at Road Atlanta, Hayes put those woes behind him as the forty-two
year old Mississippian had no issues matching the speed of his teammate, Cameron Beaubier, and the two Factory Yoshimura Suzuki riders. He ended up leading the majority of the first race in commanding fashion, forfeiting the lead with only three laps to go.
