that dropped him back to third position. Despite the mistake, he was still able to latch onto the back of the duo, keeping himself in contention for the victory at the half- way point of the race. Medwid and Sandoval engaged in a race of their own, allowing Cooper to escape at
the front of the field, but the Yamaha rider was able to recover from
his early mistake and salvage a second place finish in the waning stages of the race. The Missouri native found his redemption in the second moto, pulling
the holeshot aboard his Yamaha rocket ship yet again. He was able to hold it together at the front of the pack this time around, setting the fastest laps of the race as he built a gap of more than ten seconds on his competitors. Medwid clocked the fastest time of the moto on the third lap, separating himself from the field with rela- tive ease as he cruised to the overall victory with a crucial first place finish in hand.
