Justin Barcia has had a rough season here in 2016. The AutoTrader JGR Yamaha rider suffered a thumb
injury in the year’s premature stages and was forced into having surgery to repair it. After being out since round two, Barcia was healthy enough to make his return in Santa Clara last weekend. Jumping into the middle of a series is always difficult especially when coming off of an injury. Everyone is in top mid season form and in a groove that comes with racing week in and week out.
It makes it all the more difficult for the returning rider to get back to his full potential. Last weekend in Santa Clara definitely proved that to be true as Barcia struggled late in the main event. Even in the qualifying races he looked good early but the mental and physical toll that comes with the intensity of supercross added up. It will take a few races for Barcia to regain his conditioning and late race intensity but look for him to make a push towards the top five as the season starts to wind to an end.
