The board goes sideways, the beautiful monster girl struts across the track, and the gate
slams, it’s showtime. Martin found himself second on the initial grid, and quickly placed himself as the alpha in front
of the pack, prior to the completion of lap one. He appeared to be all alone, until the latter moments of the race, where Husqvarna’s Martin Davalos tried his damndest to rain on his parade and destroy him by hurricane. A mere shower oc- curred however, as Davalos’ attempt at a last corner pass was destroyed by a tumble through the whoop section. The goal of the heat race was to allow himself optimum gate position for the main event; that box was checked, as Jeremy took the win and built a ton of momentum for the events to come.
With a retro themed Yamaha for this weekend’s events, Martin aspired to be a blast from the past and take the crown in Indy for old time’s sake. After an eighth place start, Martin fought tooth and nail in the opening laps, trying his best to not let the lead pack break away. He sat fourth behind fellow Minnesotan Gannon Audette on lap three, urgently seeking a place to make his move. The combed out finish line was the place of selection, and he quietly overtook third.
A race of calculation and softening of the blow to the points lead seemed to be in place, as Martin sat comfortably on the last step of the podium. But to the dismay of crew and fans alike, Jeremy was shown off the track, limping gingerly with the bar mounts of his Yamaha in hand. With both bike and body broken, his championship dreams took a devastating hit with the DNF, and he would have to look forward to Saint Louis for redemption.
