Weston Peick was on a little hot streak heading into Indianapolis where he looked ready to keep the streak going. He had a good qualifying day coming away with the eleventh fastest time and was salivating at the thought of the track deteriorating during the night show because those are
the conditions he excels in.
The heat race did not start of the way he would have liked as he came through the first turn mired in the pack. He wanted to get right on through to the main event so he attempted a charge to the front. On his way he nearly ran into Pourcel’s stranded bike after he went down but he maneuvered around and continued the charge. He got a clear track late in the race but could not get close enough to challenge Weimer. He would finish sixth and line it up in the semi.
Peick got out to a better start coming out in fourth place. He immediately charged after Broc Tickle and the two would dice it out for the better part of the second lap. Peick would finally make the pass stick and go after Pourcel and Alessi. He looked very aggressive and the fastest we have seen him maybe all season. The grueling track really suited his style. He quickly caught Pourcel and passed him but would go down in the whoops shortly after ending his race. It was onto the LCQ.
Not the race Peick wanted to be in but he needed to be careful and execute the ever-changing track to head to the main event. He started third and made quick work of both Jeff Alessi and rival Vince Friese and continued on for the win.
Peick could not get a good start in the main event and found himself way back in fifteenth on lap one. He had the speed to finish deep in the top ten so he tried to work his way up there. He made a series of moves and moved into eleventh place in just one lap. His charge tapered off there and he was stuck just outside the top ten. Just as he started to get another charge mounted, he would go down and drop to sixteenth. He would end up finishing in that position capping off a disappointing main event. His streak of three straight top tens came to an end but his speed is definitely there.
