Considered by many to be a Supercross specialist, the number 49 wanted to start the series off
on the right foot, and gain early race momentum. He did just that, battling rookie Tristan Char-
boneau and TLD staple, Jessy Nelson for the first few laps. Sitting in seventh, five minutes into
the moto, the field was shuffling rampantly, everyone jockeying for the slightest of positions.
Davalos, now being passed by riders such as Aaron Plessinger and Alex Martin, found himself in a sandwich of youngsters; he sat eleventh nearing the halfway point, between Alex Frye and Austin Forkner. With ferocious cumulonimbus clouds surrounding the town of Rancho Cordova, precipitation began to fall, causing Davalos to mishap and drop to 24th. He would finish here, anx- iously waiting for a chance of redemption in moto two. Experience seemed to pay dividends for the Husky pilot, as the red flag restart didn’t rattle the veteran in the slightest. He jockeyed for position throughout the top ten, inching towards the top seven pack nearing the halfway point. The years of riding the Hangtown circuit were coming to good use, as he was slightly gaining
on the champion looming in the foreground. All appeared to be well, until the laps began to dwindle down, lap traffic becoming apparent and the soil becoming slicker. Timing and scoring would suddenly drop him to a catastrophic 35th, and disappointing 32nd overall on the weekend.
