Eli Tomac had himself a frustrating night in San Diego. He looked prime to have a good night after log- ging the quickest time in qualifying practice but couldn’t put it together in the races. A mid pack start in his heat race would put Tomac behind the eight ball but a valiant charge to the front put him in a
transfer spot. He finished in 3rd place, a solid result after starting mired in the pack.
The main event was visibly frustrating for Tomac as he suffered another average start and got locked in a three-way duel for 3rd place with Trey Canard and Ken Roczen. He was at the tail end of the battle and was stalking 4th place Ken Roczen. After several laps Tomac still couldn’t work his way around Roczen and saw him work by Canard for 3rd. Not wanting to see Roczen get away, Tomac tried charg- ing by Canard but he could not make it happen. Near the end of the race, he was still trying to get by Canard when lappers clogged up a corner and Anderson came flying in and made the pass. Tomac would not be able to retaliate and would have to settle with the 6th place finish. He has to be upset knowing he had the speed but he just could not find any lines to make passes. A holeshot could be all Tomac needs to get back up on the podium and he will look to do just that in Arlington.
