Marvin Musquin would have himself a solid night at the second stop in San Diego. The 450 rookie began the day with the 8th fastest lap time in qualifying practice. The heat race started with Musquin taking the holeshot and the early
lead. Musquin held strong out front for a few laps until Red Bull KTM teammate, Ryan Dungey, would make the pass for the lead. Before the race was over Musquin would lose a battle with Cole Seely for 2nd and finish the race in 3rd that was enough to send him straight to the main event.
A top 3 start was how the main event would start for Musquin but in the second turn he would bobble and momentarily run alongside his bike before hopping back on. It was a crazy sequence that only cost him
a few positions. Once Musquin settled in after the early mistake he would find himself in 6th place. He stayed close to a wild three-way battle for 3rd but couldn’t get close enough to show a wheel. Anderson would charge by Musquin after a bad start leaving him to ride in a quiet 7th place. Musquin would get some fits from Chad Reed late in the race but he would hold on to finish in 7th place. The rookie has been getting more consistent as of late and will aim to keep it going as the series heads to Arlington next weekend.
