Following the initial rhythm section, Dungey had just a tad more drive
than second place Justin Bogle, and squeezed the rookie to the edge of the berm, securing the number two ride. The champion then zeroed in on his fellow Baker’s Factory/KTM teammate Marvin Musquin, who was getting a glimpse of victory in the front of the pack.
With Dungey’s attention focused on the rider in front, Newbury Park’s Cole Seely wanted to change the equation, and show Dungey a wheel. Ryan eventually prevailed, dethroning the Frenchman and taking the check-
ered flag.Looking to stretch his point’s lead, the Dunge was all business as the gate fell for the 450 main event. A holeshot and open track meant more tearoffs and fresh air for the KTM pilot, as he led the field from one, all the way to the checkered flag.
A seemingly perfect main event for the Minnesota native, Dungey had a vibe in San Diego that resembled that of Ladaninan Tomlinson; the three TD, 150 plus yard LT we knew from the mid 2000’s. A performance that made the Charger and Padre faithful provide a standing ovation. Dungey doesn’t lack aggression anymore; that, paired with his pure determination and fitness can be deadly. With each event comes more momentum, and championship aspirations seem closer with every win.
