In semi 2, Friese narrowly misses the holeshot, and fights to stay with Baggett and Bogle. Justin Brayton puts the pressure on Friese, who, strategically works to
block Brayton’s advances. In the second lap, Friese holds on to third. Brayton slips around Friese in the third lap and Hahn begins to put pressure on him. Tommy Hahn nudges Friese off the track – Friese quickly recov- ers and gets back on to the track in sixth. In the final lap Friese makes an aggressive pass on Baggett to steal the final transfer spot.
Friese would have a bit of struggle to fight in the main event – a rough start would have him clawing for ground the entirety of the race. He would spend a few laps battling with Bogle – and would later charge aggres- sively into eighteenth place. Friese would pass Pourcel but wouldn’t quite catch up to Bogle, locking Friese into sixteenth overall in San Diego.
