It’s a somewhat exceptional occurrence to see a young rider uproot their life and move to the United States to pursue a career as a moto- cross racer, but that’s exactly what Indonesia’s Kelana Humphrey has done. The eleven-year- old is following in the footsteps of Jo Shimoda, Jett Lawrence, and Ken Roczen, but it’s unquestionable that he marches to the beat of his own drum. The Indonesian native made the permanent move to California at a very young age and sometimes splits his focus between desert racing and motocross. It’s safe to as- sume that he’s one of the few riders in the 65cc class doing a yoga routine before bed prior to the night of a big race and it’s that same mental
maturity that transfers to the track and helps with his success. Although Humphrey has been a standout on the local scene for some time, he still hasn’t managed to crack into the upper echelon of young riders on the national scene, but that doesn’t mean he lacks the tal- ent. Humphrey’s best finish of the 2018 season came at the 51st annual Mammoth Mountain Motocross as he bagged a 7th place overall in the 65cc (10-11) class, showing flashes of his potential on the bike against some stiff compe- tition. Nonetheless, his ability on a supercross- style track is undeniable and it was more than apparent when practice got underway at State Farm Stadium that the young rider from Indo-
