The Honda rider put forth some solid performances in both the 250SX Futures class as well as the Open A class, finishing in third and fourth place, respectively, the height of his success came in the Collegeboy (16-24) division. As one of the youngest competitors in the class, Mumford was immediately touted as one of the pre-race favorites following the amount of speed that he demonstrated in practice. The Californian appears to be undersized for the 250, but he handles the machine with rela- tive ease and is consistently one of the smoothest riders on the track. Alternatively, his shorter stature and lighter frame can be a benefit to him out of the starting gate, but it didn’t work out that way as the gate dropped on the Collegeboy heat race. Mumford found himself fighting for position just outside of the top ten on the opening lap and he faced a mountain to climb within four short laps. Nonetheless, he put his head down and charged forward until the checkered flag, eventually working his way up to fourth
