Jo Shimoda has been a perennial contender on the amateur scene in both supercross and motocross throughout the past couple of years. The Japanese rider has one of
the smoothest riding styles on the track and his race craft is second to none, showcas- ing an uncanny ability to predict what will happen ahead of him at any given moment. He’s not the most consistent rider out of the starting gate, but his ability to find passing opportunities in very tight windows more than makes up for his shortcomings out of the gate. Shimoda had an injury that kept him out of contention at the beginning of
2018, but he wasted no time getting back to the podium once he returned to racing. The Honda rider started with a win and a podium at the California Classic and finished all three of his classes on the box at Mammoth Motocross, but his most impressive result of the season came in the Amateur All-Stars class at Monster Cup. Shimoda tasted the podium in Las Vegas in 2017 when he was in the B class, but he redeemed himself
