Eli knew he was in a must win situation when the day began in Maryland. He qualified in the usual 2nd place and set his focus on the gate drop. When the first moto began, Eli got a decent start and was running inside the top 10 on the first lap. Suddenly, he was tangled with another rider and found himself on the ground.
He got up in last place and knew he had a long race ahead of him. He began to pick up the pace with 25 minutes left on the clock and it was only a matter of time before he passed the majority of the pack. Eli continued to pass multiple guys per lap as his lap times were much faster than nearly every rider in front of him. By the halfway point, he had incredibly made his way into the top fifteen and was still climbing.
