COLIN MEGAW
After a top five overall finish in the 51cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited class at the Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championships, Colin Megaw came into The Motoplayground Race at Ponca City with one thing on his mind -- a number one plate. The youngster out of Buffalo, Minnesota contested the 51cc (4-6) Shaft Drive Limited class as well as the 51cc (4-6) Special Limited class, and he showed his speed on both occasions. Megaw’s best finish in the Special Limited class was a fourth place in his opening moto, but it was the Shaft Drive class where he really shined. The Yamaha rider rode with unbridled confidence in both races as he withstood pressure from Ryder Bloomquist in two incredibly tight battles. In the first moto, Megaw grabbed the holeshot and immediately pulled a gap on Bloomquist, but as they began to work their way into lapped traffic, the gap began to shrink. The pressure was on with only a couple
of laps to go and both riders upped the pace in the final stages of the moto, clocking their personal best lap times at the very last op- portunity. Megaw took the checkered flag with less than a one second gap between himself and Bloomquist, putting him in the driver’s seat heading into the final moto. It was a complete carbon copy of the first moto as the Minnesota native got out to an early lead ahead of Michigan’s Bloomquist, and the race came down to the bitter end yet again. Megaw managed to lead from the drop of the gate to the checkered flag, but the two of them were practically bar to bar on the penultimate lap. His incredible pace at the front of the field forced Bloomquist into a small mistake involving some lappers, but he kept the throttle pinned anyways and turned the fastest lap of the race on the final lap, grabbing the checkered flag and the number one plate with a massive smile pinned from ear to ear.
