CAMERON BEAUBIER : MOTUL SUPERBIKE
Cameron Beaubier is the man to beat heading into the 2017 MotoAmerica season -- the twenty-four year old Californian is the two-time defending champion of the class, marching his way to a total of sixteen victories in the last two seasons combined. The Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider will be looking to advance his name in the history books throughout the new season as he currently stands sixth all-time on the AMA Superbike win list. He has a plethora of experience
as a motorcycle racer -- not only has he clinched the MotoAmerica Superbike championship two years running, but he’s also a former Daytona SportBike champion. In addition to that, he has experience on the world stage as
he competed in the 125cc Grand Prix class in 2009 as Marc Marquez’s teammate, and he also ran as a wildcard in the World Superbike class last year at Donington Park where he snagged a top ten finish.
Beaubier was hoping to make an improvement on last year’s start to the season in which he left the first round with only thirteen points. The twenty-four year old showed solid speed during Superpole on his way to wrapping up second place on the grid. In the first race, Beaubier managed a good launch when the lights went out as he put his R1 in third position behind Roger Hayden out of the first corner. He had Bobby Fong nipping at his heels for the opening portion of the race, but he kept his sights set on the Suzuki duo ahead of him. Unfortunately, he made a slight mistake heading
into the grandstand section only a couple of laps into the race and tucked the front end, subsequently sliding into the gravel trap. Beaubier was able to regain his composure and restart his motorcycle, as he immediately began working his way back through the field. >>
