CAMERON BEAUBIER
MAIN EvENT 19: 250 ALL-STAR A/B
Sylvain Barrier is a new addition to the MotoAmerica paddock in 2017. The French rider brings a wealth of international experience to the series in the form of two FIM Superstock 1000 Championships in 2012 and 2013. Since then, the twenty-eight year old has competed in
the World Superbike Evo class as well as the Endurance World Championship, but his results have been hindered by multiple injuries that he sustained throughout the past couple of years. Nonetheless, he racked up twenty-three podiums, fourteen pole positions, and ten race wins in his time racing on the world stage. The Frenchman is reuniting with BMW aboard a S1000RR with the Scheibe Racing team as he plans to set up shop in the United States for the entirety of the season.
Barrier adapted quickly to the American lifestyle and
the vibe of the MotoAmerica series as he managed to advance directly into Superpole, eventually clocking the twelfth fastest time of the session. In the first race of the season, Barrier didn’t get the best start off of his twelfth place position on the grid, slipping the clutch a little bit
as he powered uphill into the first corner. He was able to regroup in the early stages of the race as he laid down some blinding laps on his BMW S1000RR, eventually working his way up to eighth position. Unfortunately, he experienced an electrical malfunction in the closing stages of the race that caused him to pull off the track and restart his machine, dropping him back to an eventual eleventh place finish. In the second race, Barrier wasn’t able to make any headway from his starting position as he battled just outside the top ten with South African native, Cameron Petersen, for the majority of the race. The two of them raced within a couple seconds of one another all the way until the checkered flag where Barrier crossed the line in twelfth position.
