MATHEWscholtz
Mathew Scholtz is one of many
international riders joining the Mo-
toAmerica ranks in the 2017 season.
The South African native formerly
competed in the Red Bull Rookies
Cup class against many of the current MotoAmerica competitors during the 2008, 2009, and 2010 seasons where he was able to score a race win as well as several podium finishes. Since then, he has competed in many dif- ferent series overseas such as the Spanish CEV, German IDM, and the FIM World Supersport Champion- ship. He grasped the opportunity to compete in the Superstock 1000 class in MotoAmerica for the 2016 season and it took a surprising turn at Utah Motorsports Campus when he was picked up by the Yamalube/Westby Racing squad. He managed to score five second place finishes in the last six races of the year with the new team, therefore earning himself a full- time spot for the 2017 season.

SCHOLTZ MANAGED A POSI- TIVE START TO THE WEEKEND IN HIS FIRST TRIP TO THE CIRCUIT OF THE AMERICAS. He adapted quickly to the three and a half mile course, immedi- ately establishing himself as the second fastest Superstock rider just behind Bobby Fong. Scholtz earned a spot in the Superpole session and placed his Yamalube/ Westby Racing Yamaha in sev- enth position on the grid heading into the racing action. In the first race, Scholtz didn’t get the best jump when the lights went out, but it ended up working in his favor as he avoided the mayhem at the front of the pack. >>
