Joey Savatgy returned to his winning ways at the previous round in Colorado and wanted to keep
it that way at High Point. He came out looking lightning fast in qualifying practice and notched the
second quickest time just one tenth of a second slower than pole sitter Zach Osborne.
The motos didn’t start as well for Savatgy as he was mired in about tenth place for most of the first lap. He made a few moves and grabbed the green flag sitting in seventh position. He saw a pair of Yamahas at the front and new he needed to start moving fast if
he wanted any chance at a win. He put his head down and made work of Aaron Plessinger for sixth a few laps in and passed RJ Hampshire for fifth shortly after. He continued his charge up to Cooper Webb but would bobble and go down around the halfway point of the moto. His bars and levers were a bit tweaked but he only lost one position to Hampshire so it wasn’t too bad of a mistake. He re-passed Hampshire the following lap and looked to be stuck in fifth for the remainder of the race. But with a few laps to go he would go right on by Alex Martin who’s bike was spewing coolant and smoke. That late race gift would give Savatgy a solid fourth place finish considering his fall. In the second moto Savatgy got off to a much better start. He started fourth but quickly moved into third behind Jeremy Martin and his teammate Adam Cianciarulo.
