Forced to partake in the increasing Mayhem of Saturday, the races seemed to lack the usual final round fire due to the unstable conditions of rain, muck and tear-offs. It was clear that the track was unfavorable to a majority of the contestants but that’s what makes the sport of Supercross so great; in rain or sunshine, the battle must rage on. As the night got off to a blistering start with the 250 classes hauling the mail in the opening two heats, Roczen was entered into heat one as the fourth
fastest overall qualifier. As if he had been labeled with four, Roczen came across lap one in 4th. Staying there for lap two, the heat didn’t seem to offer much excitement as each rider settled into a groove on the weather beaten, slow circuit. On lap three of five though, Roczen was able to work around the outside of Josh Grant, boosting himself into 3rd for the final three laps. The continuous rain didn’t make it easier for Kenny but the #94 was unfazed in his first race of the final round. Now, with only twenty more laps to build up even more poise before erasing the chalkboards and starting over on an even playing field, Roczen was ready to do business. As the final gate of 2016 clanked sharply on the Vegas soil, the two leading racers remarkably marched their way into lead spots by the end of lap one. Roczen had started behind Anderson in the beginning but didn’t waste time in getting around the 450 class sophomore. Over the course of lap two through five, Roczen inched his way onto the rear fender of Dungey, ultimately getting by in the middle of lap six.
