Max Vohland had an extremely solid weekend in his home state for this year’s california classic. His most successful class was the 85cc 9 - 12 where he won Friday and Saturday’s motos and rounded off the weekend with a third place on Sunday. In the other six races that he entered, Max found himself on the podium twice and in the top five in three out of the other four races. The Mini Sr. Open 9 - 14 class was a bit of a challenge for the Orange
Brigade rider, racing with kids that have more experience than him in the class. But, he started
up front in the first two motos and held his own, finishing inside the top five both times. In the third moto, he fought back from outside the top ten to finish fifth on the day and fourth overall. The second moto of Mini Sr. 1 definitely presented him with his biggest challenge of the weekend, having to fight back from twenty-sixth position. Max showcased his race craft in order to cut through half the field before the end of the seven lap moto and found himself in thirteenth position by the checkered flag. In the first moto, he had better fortunes off the line and left himself a lot less grunt work. He started the race in fourth place and found his way past Haruki Segawa and Larry Reyes Jr. in order to slot into second place and hold off a late charge from Max Miller.
