KILPATRICK
MITCHELL FALK /
MOTOCROSS
From the outside looking in, this game ap- pears to be an extremely physical sport, providing lucrative demands on the body. The amount of blood, sweat, and tears is apparent, even when looking at a rider first glance, once taking off their helmet. The heart rate spikes, the lactic acid fills, and the breathing rate is very intense, all the while controlling an absolutely rugged machine at maximum speeds. But what you don’t see,
is the amount of momentum shift that oc- curs, when viewing a rider from the outside in. Look at Mitchell Falk, a rider this week that has seen huge spurts of lap leading, seeming to have the race sewed up. When all of the sudden, in the closing moments of the moto, disaster strikes, and he’s on the ground, making mistakes, and overall losing positions. The roller coaster ride, his brain and mentality are on, is something else. One minute, he’s king of the world, the next, he’s climbing out of the dumps. However, with instances like 450 A, you see what happens when all of the stars align with a young man with of this talent caliber. For the first moto, it was Jyire Mitchell leading the way across the stripe, with Lance Kobusch second, Derek Drake third, and Mitchell Falk fourth. Mitchell, a young man who was also prominent on the smallest of minicycles, would hold the lead for three laps. It was then, he seemed to hit a bit of a wall, with arms fatiguing and the mind starting to lapse. Kobusch would make the move, followed by Drake, and Falk as well.
It was these three, jousting with sharpened blades until the bitter end, with the number 99 taking the win, 33 in second, and the 612 of Falk in third. Falk wanted the moto victory in the second race, and that was apparent from the start. Although Derek Drake wanted this plate as well, therefore it would come down to a battle of will. Falk would suffocate the number 33, pushing the adrenaline of Drake to the limit. The West Coast tandem would toss the lead back and forth, with Falk making the move stick just before the white flag. It was there, that you almost saw a
little bit of life pushed out of Drake. Falk had broke the momentum of the opposing KTM, and it would be enough to take the moto win. These scores, would be combined and added together, resulting in an optimum score for the overall. Mitchell Falk could now walk away with a bit of happiness.
