KILPATRICK
ALEX JORGENSEN / Motocross
You would think, that many in the novice divi- sion weren’t accustomed to the appalling track conditions Mother Nature provided, for the motocross portion of the event. With that train of thought, however, you couldn’t be further from the truth. Many of these competitors adapted to this change of pace in the blink of an eye, although tearoffs would first be needed for clear vision. A slew of rider’s dashed to sign-up to enter, so much so that there were
an astonishing three heats of qualification. The first, saw Angelo Molina and Kade Jackson packing a one-two punch early on, with Molina relinquishing the lead on lap two. This duo, in particular Jackson, continued to pull on the rest of the field, with KJ setting the fastest lap on the third circuit. This would be the climax of the moto, as Jackson would go on to win, followed by Molina, and Stephen Ward. Jaylend McCarty wanted his voice to be heard in the second moto, never waiting to be called on, and as- serting himself as the man in charge. An early lead saw the pace set to be solid, yet Stockton Stinebaugh was readily moving steady through- out the field. He would run out of time however, chipping away five seconds, yet still down three at the finish; Jeff Chambers would bring home third. And for the last group of the trilogy, Kole Medwid set out to receive the lowest score pos- sible. He would do so, starting off with the lead, and never being challenged, Alex Jorgensen was just a smidge off in second. Evan Haimow- itz would tally up the third spot for the final go around. As all of the respective high placing finishers would load the gate for the second moto, it truly was anyone’s game to claim the title. Bolting off the line, the field swept the first corner, and down the initial straightaway into the Gator Pit. Creeping out of the valley, the first to catch the green flag, matching the color of his number 514 machine. All seemed to be well, until that of a number 38 Husqvarna be- gan to pop in to his peripheral vision. Peeking to his side, it was too late, and lap three, Kade Jackson snuck by. However, displaying a true sense of championship mentality, Jorgensen would muster up enough energy to leap back by, surpassing his fellow contender. It would
be secure enough to stick, moving to Jackson to second, and Devon Bates to third. The Mary Esther native had done it, taking home the title, fulfilling a dream!
