SHANE MCELRATH
Off to a shaky start thus far in the outdoor nationals, the #30 bike of Shane McElrath hasn’t quite accomplished what it set out for. Looking back three long weeks ago and heading into Hangtown for round one, Shane was coming off a 7th place supercross season that saw him take charge of the Red Bull KTM
brigade and shine some light on a less than bright season inside. After the first two rounds outside, though, McElrath hasn’t been glowing in the same brilliance and what seems to be nagging the North Carolina young gun is early race mishaps. In
fact, three out of the first four moto’s have seen McElrath cross lap one in 7th place and somehow battle his way out of the top ten; usually by the time lap five is crossed off the chalkboard. In hindsight, with a 23rd and 14th in round one and two behind him, “Moody” McElrath can now breathe a little bit, ridding the tension currently locked on his flow and find a way to stop the fade. As you can see that the finish at Glen Helen for round two was an improvement of nine spots, McElrath may already be smoothing out his early race tempo and setting himself up for a 30-minute crusade this weekend. As the tour sets up camp in the Colorado confines of round three, Shane, who sits 20th in the standings, will look to repeat his progress and pick up nine more.
